Independence Day on 1 October: what to expect

1 October is Independence Day in Cyprus and a public holiday, with celebrations that usually include a parade in Nicosia. Banks, government offices and many shops close for the day, while hotels, most restaurants and major tourist sites usually keep operating, sometimes on shorter hours. 28 October, known as Ochi Day, is another public holiday later in the month.
